During home visits to a local village, we are accompanied by two vice principals and two teachers of Long Lin Junior High School.

村里的老人健步如飞带我们寻找学生的家
We are assisted by a village senior in seeking out a student’s home. The village senior walks with a quick pace, we try to keep up.

你们千万别上来，这地板承受不了大家的重量
Be extra careful. The floor may not support everyones weight.

中风过的爷爷靠低保抚养双孤的孙儿，孩子只有一套像样衣服穿
The grandfather had a prior stroke and receives only a small grant from the government. Yet he is trying to support his orphan grandson. He tells Tricia that the grandson only has one set of proper attire.

An orphan student lives with his grandparents in this small shed.

Aunt Jane ponders, how could anyone live in this house?

One student’s father became disabled in an unfortunate work accident. The disability was due to a torn foot ligament.

You can see clearly the badly damaged wood floor.

一名学生孤儿由婶婶和奶奶抚养，奶奶驼背加上腿疾，这是奶奶站立的姿势
A student orphan is being raised by her aunt and grandmother. The grandmother’s stooped standing posture is caused by a hunched back and arthritis in the legs.

A Tomorrow Program volunteer is teaching a 1st level junior high class how to use the English-Chinese dictionary.

A student is asked to demonstrate the proper posture for walking to obtain the best physical benefits.

孩子的笑容是我们最大的安慰
A child’s smile is our greatest reward.

Congratulations, you have overcome your fear of asking questions in class. You are so great.

虽然墙壁已改建为砖墙，屋内依然破旧
The walls of this house was rebuilt with bricks, but the rest of the house still shows its wear.

The student living in this house proudly display his awards on the wall.

危房改建后的学生家，房子表面是砖房，里面仍是原来的木房
This student’s home was rebuilt with bricks on the exterior. The interior of the home retains its original wood construction.

An orphan and his uncle live in this house.

安德中学停电，我们点着蜡烛和孩子们谈话
Class instruction is held by candle light. This situation was caused by a power outage at An De High School.

果乐初中的孩子们星期六留在学校和我们见面
The students of Guo Le Junior High School stayed after their regular sessions, just to meet us on Saturday.

孩子认真记下我们这次谈话的重点，以提醒自己要珍惜自己、要努力
These students wrote down notes as a reminder, to value themselves and to study hard.

在魁圩初中唯一空出来的电脑教室和孩子们谈话
The computer room was the only available space for us to conduct classes and converse with the students at Kui Xu Junior High School.

The students are participating in group discussions to explore the reasons why they are so timid in asking questions in class.

她说不敢发问是害怕老师责备，怕被同学瞧不起
This girl stated she was afraid to ask questions in class, due to her concern that the teacher will react unfavorably and her classmates will lower their opinion of her.

她说他们这一组讨论结果，最害怕的是班上同学的嘲笑
From these group discussions we found the primary reason why a student would not ask a question in class. They were afraid of losing face, their classmates may laugh at them.

这个家兄妹两人都是真爱明天的学生
The brother and sister living in this home are Tomorrow Program students.

爸爸去世，妈妈独力抚养两个孩子上学
The father had past away, with only the mother to support two kid’s schooling.

学生奶奶脸上的皱纹刻画着岁月的沧桑，小学三年级的妹妹只有一支笔没有笔记本，妈妈生她时血崩去世，交谈时她脸上始终透露着忧伤
The passing of time is reflected in the wrinkles of this grandmother’s face. This 3rd grade student’s mother passed away while giving her birth and she is still very sad when we talk. She has one pen, but no notebook.

No one knows when this house will be rebuilt.

南坡初中没有多余的教室，我们在食堂和学生谈话
There are no spare classrooms at Nan Po Junior High School. We gathered for class in the school’s cafeteria.
